3rd Lymm was established in 1945 and in common with just about every other Scout Group in the country has waxed and waned ever since.

At time of writing (February 2008) we are about 80 strong but we could be even stronger but for the lack of Leaders.

As you see from other pages we have 3 sections Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.  From the age of 14½ Scouts move on to Explorer Scouts  which is run by the Scout District organisation .

Our Head Quarters

Our Head Quarters was built in 1947 as a school meals kitchen and dining hall.  It is now showing its age and becoming uneconomic to maintain.

For the past 30 years or so succeeding members of the Group and supporters have fund-raised to gather the money to replace the building.  In 1995 we acquired the land on which our present H.Q. stands so at least we have surety of tenure.

Below is an artist’s impression of the sort of building we would like to build.  The main feature is that it will be a two hall structure.  Why is this important you might ask.

At the moment Beavers, cubs and Scouts all meet on different nights.  This means that for a lad or lass to move from one section to the next he or she must change nights.  This often results in a choice of dropping or moving other activities.  When we have the availability of two halls we will be able to accommodate Beavers, Cubs and Scouts all on the same night thus making whatever night it is “Scout Night” no matter what section is involved.

We are close to our target amount to be able to afford a new building so we hope to be able to offer better facilities in the near future.

Other uses for our Head Quarters

Like most Scout Groups, our H.Q. is underused.

We would like to encourage other organisations to make use of the facilities we have now and of course our new facilities when we have them.

This will help us in two ways.  It will help us to make connections with other organisations and it will help us to demonstrate that the building is available for  and is used by the wider community.   And as we would charge a small rental, it won’t do our building fund any harm either.

If we get sufficient numbers of people using the H.Q. We would set up a management committee to oversee the operation of the hall and its other facilities.  This of course would be continued with the new building.

So if you are interested in “throwing you lot in with us” have a look at the “HQ” page and give us a call.
